Some light-hearted tension in game can make for some good fun. Absolutely you can call him evil or chaotic and call him a disgrace. Now, you can take issue with that, in-character. And if I were him, I would make a habit of this. His party members either being too squeamish to kill the creature, or bent enough towards evil to try and cooperate with it for their own gain, only give the Paladin more assurance that his god's guiding hand is necessary and proper. Prolonging the life of an evil creature is directly against his law and his oath. A vengeful hand of god is meant to deliver swift justice to those that would spit in the face of good. Have you seen Ragathiel's domains? They're Good, Law, Nobility, and Destruction. He's absolutely being lawful when following that, and this isn't a transgression but a moment of glory to him. His god, the Law above all else, orders him to purge the heathens and sinners in righteous flame. In general, yes, but the specifics of it come down to what your laws are. Wiping out evil by any means necessary is very much a chaotic good thing, though. But so long as they have God's blessing, they'll carve a bloody trail through heathens and act as God's spear in the charge on evil. This is why the Iscariot carry 30 pieces of silver (the price Judas was paid to betray Jesus) and a straw rope: if God ever decides that their time is up or that they are no longer useful, they'll return the 30 pieces of silver and hang themselves with the rope on the spot. Yes, it's a fine line to walk between good and evil when you take this path. Here's two versions of a speech he and his followers made (the latter being an abridged version so, you know, it's a little out there, but they get the idea across). He leads the charge to wipe out evil by any means necessary. Picture Alexander Anderson, if you've seen Hellsing Ultimate. Denying a surrender is a lesser evil necessary to destroy a wicked heathen and enact vengeance and justice for his foul deeds. Note how it says, in the Oath of Vengeance description Code of Conduct: Never let lesser evils distract you from your pursuit of just vengeance. He's clearly playing some sort of crusader, a wrathful slayer of heathens. I would absolutely accept that explanation. Although, if it were my campaign, he'd only have proficiencies now. He chose paladin, which means he shouldn't let personal vendettas get in the way of Law or Good. In conclusion, if he wanted to be Ragathiel's sword, he should have gone inquisitor. Goblins can be Good, and they can even be reformed. He (according to the original post) started doing this to others in the group, committing a genocide despite that, while goblins (and goblin society) tend towards evil, they are not defined by it, such as the way a demon would be. He killed something that was (albeit arguably) helpless. He killed something that had voluntarily surrendered, and thus was no longer a threat. If he is beholden to the group, the group's word is a promise, and by killing someone he had promised (even by proxy) not to harm, he has broken the promise. /r/3d6 - For character creation, advice and sharing (system agnostic)įrom what I've gathered: your group was ambushed and began to fight, when the goblin got hurt, and your Face convinced the goblins to stop, with specific terms of 'no harm.' The paladin took the opportunity to kill a surrendered and cowering goblin, citing his Oath of Vengeance and that goblins are evil and "disgusting."
